Like every year, this year too, the festival of Mahavir Jayanti was celebrated with great pomp and show. Preparations for this special day were started long back. Under this, collective Mahavir Jayanti celebrations were organized in 17 Digambar Jain temples of East Delhi. This special program was organized in the association of Upadhyaya Guptasagarji Maharaj.

Similarly, various programs were organized at Rourkela in Odisha on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti. In which, by raising the slogan of 'live and let live', the people were appealed to the society to stop killing animals and give up carnivores. With this, Mahavir Swami's attractive tableau was also taken out by the people through the procession. Through this procession, people were given knowledge on the topics related to de-addiction, morality.

This festival was celebrated with great pomp in Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh. Prabhatferi was taken out of the Jain temple by the devotees here on Wednesday morning and the flag was sung after the flag hoisting at the Sridigambar Jain Sarajayati temple. During this, Aryika Sammed Shikhar Mataji while addressing the devotees said that the younger generation is forgetting their ideals day by day. If we want to see peace in the world, then we have to adopt the Panchsheel principles of Lord Mahavira.
History of Mahavir Jayanti
Mahavir Jayanti is celebrated every year by people of Jainism and other religions especially on the occasion of the birth day of the great saint, Mahavira (also known as Vardhaman). Mahavir Swami was the 24th and last Tirthankara of the Jains, who discovered Jainism as well as established the major principles of Jainism.

He was born on the 13th day of Chaitra month of Shukla Paksha in 540 BC, in Kundalagram in Vaishali district of Bihar. For this reason, Mahavir Jayanti is celebrated every year on 13 April with great enthusiasm and joy. It is a very important and traditional celebration for Jains. It has been declared as a gazetted holiday all over India, a holiday for all government offices and educational institutions.

Mahavir Jayanti is celebrated by the name of Mahavir Janma Kalyanak in Jains. According to the Gregorian calendar, it falls annually every year in the month of March or April. It is celebrated with great fervor in all Jain temples across the country. All temples and sites associated with Mahavir are decorated with flowers, flags etc. on this special occasion. On this day, a traditional bath is given to the idol of Mahavir Swami before the ceremony and worship and a grand procession or procession is taken out thereafter. On this day, there is a tradition of distributing clothes, food, rupees and other essential items to poor people.

Mahavir Swami
Mahavir Swami, the 24th and last pilgrimage of Jainism, 540 BC. Formerly, was born into a princely family in Bihar in India. It is believed that, during his birth, all people were happy and full of prosperity, that is why they are known as Vardhamana i.e. Viddhi. They were born to the houses of King Siddhartha and Queen Trishala. It is believed that, from the time of his birth, his mother started having wonderful dreams about him, that he will either become an emperor or a pilgrim. After his birth, Lord Indra was ritualistically bathed with milk of heaven as a pilgrimage.

He left home in search of religious awareness at the age of 30 and through 12 years and 6 months of deep meditation, he was successful in attaining Kaivalya i.e. knowledge. He started traveling all over India and traveled continuously for 30 years, teaching people truth, untruth, non-violence, celibacy and aparigraha. At the age of 72, he attained nirvana and became one of the great pilgrims of Jainism, due to which he is considered the founder of Jainism.
Life of Mahavir Swami
There are many differences regarding the place of birth of Mahavir Swami, some people say that he was born in Kundaligram, Vaishali, Lachhor, Jamui, Kundalpur, Nalanda or Basokund. However, there are still uncertainties about his place of birth. His parents were great followers of Parasava. He was named Mahavira, which means great warrior; Because they had controlled the terrible snake since childhood. He is also known as Sanmanti, Veera and Nataputta (meaning son of Nata). There is a lot of difference in terms of their marriage, some people believe that, they were unmarried, while some people believe that they were married to Yashoda and they had a daughter named Priyadarshana.

After leaving home at the age of 30, he became deeply engrossed in meditation and faced a lot of difficulties and troubles. After many years of meditation, he realized power, knowledge and blessings. After attaining enlightenment, he traveled to educate people with the philosophy of real life, its virtues and the joy of life. The five true principles of his philosophy were non-violence, truth, untruth, celibacy and aparigraha. His body attained nirvana at the age of 72 and his Holy Spirit became free forever by leaving the body and attaining nirvana i.e. salvation. After his death, his body was programmed in Pavapuri, now famous as the big Jain temple, Jalamandir.
